Hardeep shared:

I first heard Anna’s name about 2.5 years ago from the mother of an autistic child. She said that Anna was a really passionate advocate for Autism, had her own charity and was doing some amazing things to raise awareness!

Little did I realise that 2.5 years later I would be fortunate enough to be interviewed by her! I have decided in this interview, to reveal a little more about my life before Kaleidoscope and my upbringing to help listeners get a better understanding of who I am.

I believe passionately that in life we can only be truly empathetic or understanding of disability if we’ve been touched by it in some way. I have spoken to enough people over the last 6 years to conclude this, from investors, to entrepreneurs, to parents to employee’s in companies.

As soon as I speak to a person with a disability, hidden or visible, or an investor with a disabled child or entrepreneur with a disability we are instantly on another level of commonality, mutual respect and understanding.

The last-minute complication during the birthing process led to my son acquiring a severe brain injury that has left him disabled. He opened my eyes to a world I didn’t know existed and in particular the challenges, unfair judgements and discrimination many disabled people face.

I began to see how this in turn led to a lack of opportunities for people with disabilities and this is where I had decided I wanted to make a change. This is why Kaleidoscope was created.

To help disabled people to find their purpose through the careers. My two inspirations were my son Eshan and my business partner Shane Bratby. It was Shane that opened my eyes to the plight of the disabled entrepreneur in the early days when we first founded Kaleidoscope Investments in 2014.

Over the last 6 years we have met over 1,000 disabled people across 63 disabilities from 28 different countries.

This has given us some incredible insights into how best to support and work with them to maximise both their potential and their impact. Approximately 7% of those that have approached us have been from autistic backgrounds.

Today, the Kaleidoscope Group of Companies has an investment arm that helps disabled entrepreneurs to start businesses (Kaleidoscope Investments), a recruitment arm to help disabled people find employment (Kaleidoscope Recruitment) and an advisory arm to help organisations build and inclusive infrastructure through training services (Kaleidoscope Advisory).

In addition, we have an independent charitable foundation that will help people with disabilities to apply for grants or receive free skills training (The Kaleidoscope Foundation).

In my interview with Anna – I explain how I managed to get my dream job with James Caan (ex-Dragon from Dragons Den) and how my career in financial services helped to mould me into who I am today. I also explain how we would love to help our listeners with their careers and what more Kaleidoscope can do to assist.
