Celebrating Oscar’s 9th Birthday at Alton Towers over the weekend was simply amazing.
If I could summarise it, I would say ‘we shared our joy together’ finding days out when balancing complex needs is not easy, sharing that with dear friends who manage more than one child with complex needs was something that we will all treasure.
There are so many reasonable adjustments at the park for complex families it’s hard to cover them all in one post so I have added this guide https://www.altontowers.com/plan-your-visit/before-you-visit/accessibility/accessibility-accommodation/.
Throughout the weekend Oscar enjoyed rides and attractions and sensory areas giving him a good balance to allow him to enjoy himself in the company of his friends for his 9th Birthday. A highlight for me as a parent was to be able to share the slide with our friends, we had three complex children in one place all enjoying themselves together and bonding.
Oscar particularly enjoyed JoJo and Gran at home as it was so sensory with interactive pads and kitchen, exploring maze and sensory interactive leaf kicking ,this attraction bough calm in Oscar’s day and we visited this at times of overwhelm , the adapted wide steps and ramps throughout CBeebies land allowed for smooth transitions onto each ride which helped massively .
To share his celebrations with friends in the park Alton Towers and benefit from safe spaces is something that impacts on Oscar’s confidence he felt well supported and it showed through his interactions he was confident he went on rides and felt happy.
I will be doing a separate post about our hotel stay that includes a huge first for Oscar something we are all proud of for him.
Our weekend was met by no barriers Oscar enjoyed everything and the reasonable adjustments in place made the park accessible, this weekend will certainly have contributed to his social experiences and be a long lasting memory for him.
