Anna Kennedy Online are supporting National Inclusion Week with Recite Me

Today marks National Inclusion Week, an important date in all our calendars where we raise awareness and open up the conversation about inclusion to ensure accessibility for all.

Anna Kennedy Online are proud to share, promote and inspire inclusion practices and culture across the workplace to create a better environment for all with Recite Me accessibility and language tools available on our website.

The theme for National Inclusion Week 2022 is ‘Time to Act: The Power of Now’ as we progress our unity created in previous years and turn it into action.

To support everyone online, we provide Recite Me accessibility software across our digital landscape, this is to support those with disabilities, learning difficulties, visual impairments, or people who speak English as a second language.

Together with Recite Me we are on a mission to create an inclusive digital world, providing barrier-free access to online information and services. We have seen over 2.2 million people using the toolbar, viewing over 12 million pages in a way that best suits their individual needs.

Anna Kennedy OBE shared: “‘For me a key principle of inclusion in education is that all SEND children are given the opportunity to learn at a pace that is comfortable for them and be taught a curriculum that is relevant and meaningful to them with whatever support that is required along the way to help them reach and achieve their goal.”

When visiting our website people are able to use our suite of accessibility tools to create a unique user experience. These tools include text-to-speech functionality, fully customisable styling features, reading aids, and a translation tool with over 100 languages, including 35 text-to-speech voices and many other features.

Together we can build an inclusive online world. This starts by creating awareness on an individual or organisational level and helping others to understand the opportunities presented by inclusion, we can all make a positive difference.

My daughter Caitlin was fortunate to receive sponsorship from Anna Kennedy to attend this year’s Danimation course at Brunel university.  At the presentation ceremony on Friday, Caitlin and I met Anna, and she asked me to write a short note about her experiences over the week.

The animation week was a really positive experience for Caitlin. She has struggled at school in recent years and was diagnosed autistic and with anxiety in April, towards the end of her first year in mainstream secondary school.

Caitlin’s passion is drawing on her iPad and this course looked perfect for her, but we were unsure of the commitment, as so often her anxiety prevents her from taking part.

Anna’s scholarship gave Caitlin an opportunity that she wouldn’t otherwise have had, and she embraced it wholeheartedly.

Caitlin was keen and excited to start; the early mornings and 60-mile journey did not put her off. She felt comfortable with Dani and the rest of the team from the first moment arriving and there was no question of her not wanting to go back each day.

Working with other autistic youngsters and being supported by understanding and inclusive adults, let Caitlin feel at ease to be herself.

She learnt amazing animation skills and produced a fantastic final piece to be proud of. This experience gave us the chance to see Caitlin shine in the correct environment, which we hope will be replicated in her next school.

Caitlin is already asking to go again next year!!

Watford FC welcomed a charity which raises awareness and acceptance of autism to Vicarage Road.

Founder Anna Kennedy OBE and her charity Anna Kennedy Online were invited to the football club for a day which ended up capturing some special memories.

It was a special day for all the families who were wowed by the stadium view. Some families had never been to a football ground before.

The group of families visited the sensory room at the club before they were taken on a behind-the-scenes tour of the club’s dressing room, players’ tunnel, before posing for a picture with mascot Harry the Hornet.

Anna Kennedy Online has thanked Watford FC’s supporter and liaison and Senior Disability access Manager Dave Messenger for the hospitality he gave on the day.

Jo Wiggins charity champion from Anna Kennedy Online said: “What an amazing day we had. We received fantastic responses from families saying they could just be themselves, not be judged and be treated like VIPs. We cannot thank the club enough.”

In November, the club will be collaborating once again with the charity for their campaign ‘Give us a Break!’ During Antibullying Week in November.

Exciting news!!! AKO is providing one free scholarship for the Danimation UK workshop

Danimation returns this year, after two years of holding online camps, due to COVID. This year, we are back and excited to announce that we will be in London as a new, added destination. We are so grateful that Anna Kennedy Online are donating a sponsorship, which one lucky winner will be able to access.

We are excited to announce that there are still spaces available in the workshop, details of which can be found on the flyer below. Please note, Danimation can offer discounted prices on the marked prices seen on the website for families that are struggling financially.

The one-week workshop teaches the fundamentals of creating digital 2-D animation using software Toon Boom. The camps are a fantastic opportunity for young people to nurture many soft skills in confidence, communication, and employment-based skills. We look at character design, storyboarding and voice overs.

The event specialises in teaching individuals on the autism spectrum and related differences and is led by Dani Bowman, a young woman on spectrum herself and who you may have seen featured in “Love on the Spectrum US” on Netflix.

Please click here for more details on the website.

If you would like to contact Danimation directly, please feel welcome to direct your questions to joe@danimationentertainment.com
