Amaya Edwards age 12 has 9th book published on Autism called ‘The Adventures of Boo What is Autism?’
I want to introduce myself. I am Amaya Edwards, I am 12 years old, and I have Autism.
I was diagnosed with Autism when I was 6. I struggle to verbally communicate with people, but I have found a different way of doing this. When I was 5, I saw a dead seal on the beach with a flying ring around its neck. This upset me so I made a poster to explain to people to take their rubbish home as it injures sea animals. The Mayor of Hunstanton loved it and made it into postcards which were sold at Sealife making over £500 for them.
I could see my poster helped so I decided to write and illustrate books on helping different animals. So far, I have had 8 books published that are available on Amazon, my Facebook page called ‘My friendship bears and the adventure of Boo’ and some book shops and online bookshops.
I then wanted to write and illustrate a book on Autism. I wanted the book to help show children and adults with Autism that they are not alone but also to spread awareness of Autism and how it can affect the people with it e.g. meltdowns, sensory, food etc. In the book, I use my assistance dog Boo to help tell the story whilst she goes on adventures. With each of the books that are published, I donate 10% off their profit to different charities.
My book on Autism which is my ninth book and is called the ‘Adventures of Boo what is Autism?’ has now been published and is available on Amazon, my Facebook page called ‘My friendship bears and the adventure of Boo’ and some book shops and online bookshops.
I hope that it helps children and adults with Autism to know they are not alone and how amazing they are and they can see they can achieve anything that they want to.
