The Wonder of Feelings: A Gentle Book to Help Children Explore Emotions
As parents, carers, and educators, we often ask children how they feel, but the language of emotions can be hard to access, especially for neurodivergent minds. That’s what inspired me to create The Wonder of Feelings, a gentle, illustrated children’s book designed to help young readers explore big emotions through calming scenes and symbolic animal guides. Each emotion is brought to life by a character, from the steady heron who helps us sit with sadness to the fierce lion who makes space for anger. The story doesn’t aim to fix feelings but to offer comfort, safety, and understanding. It has been thoughtfully created for quiet reflection, bedtime reading, or use in supportive learning environments. The book has already been well received by families, teachers, and SEND professionals, and I’m so grateful to Anna Kennedy OBE for championing it so generously. To celebrate, we’re giving away two signed copies of The Wonder of Feelings. To enter the prize draw, keep an eye on the Anna Kennedy Online social media pages. Let’s keep making space for feelings. All of them. Jonathan McCarrollAuthor and Illustrator’ @the wonder of feelings
