Cambridge University Faces Disability Discrimination Challenge

Jacob Meagher, a former PhD law student, is bringing proceedings against Cambridge University for alleged disability discrimination. Meagher claims the university failed to accommodate his disability during his viva voce examination, resulting in a withdrawn job offer and significant economic losses. The High Court has permitted his case against the university to proceed.

Concerns Over Reforms to Disabled Students’ Support

Disability Rights UK has expressed apprehension regarding proposed reforms to Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA). Bethany Bale, the organisation’s education policy officer, stated that the changes could “confuse and dilute” the rights of disabled students, potentially exacerbating existing disparities in higher education access.
