Introducing New Charity Champion: Annie Sands

Annie Sands AKO Welfare Rights Charity Champion. I met Anna some years ago when she presented me with an autism award. Anna has supported campaigns I have been involved with over the years, which has definitely had an influence. I look forward to being the Welfare Rights Champion for Anna, and campaigning for better autism services with her. Annie is someone who thrives on challenges and opportunities in order to make a difference. She has a track record of leading and influencing at a senior level within local authorities, charities and ministerial departments for the autistic community. Annie has an outstanding reputation as a Welfare Rights Adviser, locally, regionally and nationally. Annie has spoken at the International Women’s Conference on ‘Guiding Vision for Disability” Annie was a key player in the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and the Equality Act review in 2010. Annie was elected as a Borough Councillor and has been an active member of SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association) highlighting issues with the DWP affecting military personnel and their families in regards to Autism.  FB IMG 1725972321535 225x300  Annie has worked as a Welfare Rights Adviser for over 30 years. Since Welfare Reform, she has campaigned on the use of the Mental State Examination and medication in regard autistic people, especially in relation to Personal Independence Payment. Annie was part of the campaign to re-introduce Housing Cost Element of Universal Credit for 18-21 year olds. Annie is the author of the Autism Passport, and co-producer of The Autism Education Leavers Passport” with the Suffolk Law Centre. Annie involves the Autistic community in everything she does.   Annie continually tries to improve processes, systems and approaches for autistic children, adults and their families. She is known for building strong relationships with statutory agencies, foundation leadership and advisory experts.
